The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
