Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
