The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
