The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
