He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
