Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
