۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had devised an evil plan (against Abraham), but We turned it into failure." 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
