The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
