The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
