The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
