He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
