The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
