Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 This is the revelations from the Beneficent, Merciful God. 2 A Book of which the verses are made plain, an Arabic Quran for a people who know: 3 Giving glad tidings [of Paradise to the one who believes in the Oneness of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) and fears Allah much (abstains from all kinds of sins and evil deeds) and loves Allah much (performing all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], and warning (of punishment in the Hell Fire to the one who disbelieves in the Oneness of Allah), but most of them turn away, so they listen not. 4 And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting. 5 Say thou: "I am but a man like you: It is revealed to me by Inspiration, that your Allah is one Allah: so stand true to Him, and ask for His Forgiveness." And woe to those who join gods with Allah,- 6 who do not pay charity and disbelieve in the Everlasting Life. 7 For those who believe and do good works is an enduring wage' 8
