The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
