The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
