He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
