The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
