The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
