Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
