Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
