The people of Al-Hijr denied Our apostles; 80 And We brought Our signs unto them, yet they were averting themselves therefrom. 81 notwithstanding that they had been wont [to enjoy Our blessings and] to hew out dwellings from the mountains, [wherein they could live] in security 82 and the Cry seized them in the morning; 83 And all that which they used to earn availed them not. 84 AND [remember:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them without [an inner] truth; but, behold, the Hour [when this will become clear to all] is indeed yet to come. Hence, forgive [men's failings] with fair forbearance: 85 Your Lord is the Creator, the Knower. 86 And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an. 87 [so] turn, not thine eyes [longingly] towards the worldly benefits which We have granted unto some of those [that deny the truth]. And neither grieve over those [who refuse to heed thee,] but spread the wings of thy tenderness over the believers, 88 And say: Lo! I, even I, am a plain warner, 89 Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators 90 Those who have made the scripture bits. 91 By your Lord, We will question them all 92 About what they used to do. 93 Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists. 94 Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers, 95 even against those who set up with God another god. Certainly they will soon know! 96 Indeed, We know that your breast is straitened at what they say. 97 Exalt with the praise of your Lord and be one of those who prostrate. 98 and worship your Lord until what is certain [death] comes to you. 99
