The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to the stinters who, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 those who give the lie to the [coming of] Judgment Day: 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him he says: "Tales of the ancients!" 13 Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So, the believers will laugh at the infidels on that day, 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
