And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam, they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not); he refused. 116 Then We said, 'Adam, surely this is an enemy to thee and thy wife. So let him not expel you both from the Garden, so that thou art unprosperous. 117 In Paradise you will experience no hunger, nakedness, 118 And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun." 119 But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? 120 They both ate the fruit of this tree, and so they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with the leaves of the Garden. Thus Adam disobeyed his Lord and fell into error. 121 Thereafter his Lord exalted him, accepted his repentance, and bestowed guidance upon him, 122 He said, “Both of you go down from heaven, one of you is an enemy to the other; then if the guidance from Me comes to you – then whoever follows My guidance, will not go astray nor be ill-fated.” 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his life shall be narrow and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind' 124 and he will ask, "Lord, why have You raised me up blind, while I possessed sight before?" 125 He will say: Even so, Our communications came to you but you neglected them; even thus shall you be forsaken this day. 126 And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring. 127 Is it not a guidance for them (to know) how many a generation We destroyed before them, amid whose dwellings they walk? Lo! therein verily are signs for men of thought. 128
