The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
