In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
