The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
