And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
