And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 and we glorify God". 166 They say, 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
