And indeed We have created man and We know what his soul instils in him; and We are nearer to him than the hearts artery. 16 When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left. 17 not even a word can he utter but there is a watcher with him, ever-present. 18 Lo, the agony of death has indeed come with the Truth. That is what you had sought to avoid. 19 And the Horn shall be blown; that is the Day of Threat! 20 And every human being will come forward with [his erstwhile] inner urges and [his] conscious mind, 21 (And the driver will say:) "You were oblivious of this, so we have removed the veil, and how keen is your sight today!" 22 And his comrade shall say, 'This is what I have, made ready.' 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter, 25 who has set up another deity beside God: cast him, then, cast him into suffering severe!" 26 ۞ Man's other self' will say: "O our Sustainer! It was not I that led his conscious mind into evil [nay,] but it had gone far astray [of its own accord]! 27 He will say, “Do not dispute before Me – I had already warned you of the punishment.” 28 The sentence that cometh from Me cannot be changed, and I am in no wise a tyrant unto the slaves. 29
