The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
