And verily Yunus was of the sent ones. 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin]. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 They used to say before: 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
