The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
