[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 When their brother Lot said to them: "Will you not take heed? 161 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 162 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 “And leave the wives your Lord has created for you? In fact you are people who exceed the limits.” 166 'Lot' they replied, 'if you do not desist, you shall be thrown out' 167 He said: "I do detest your doings." 168 My Lord! deliver me and my followers from what they do. 169 Then We delivered him and all his family 170 Except an old woman (his wife) among those who remained behind. 171 But the rest We destroyed utterly. 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 174 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 175
