To Thamood We sent their brother Salih saying: 'Worship Allah' But they were two parties in dispute with one another. 45 He said: O my people! Why will ye hasten on the evil rather than the good? Why will ye not ask pardon of Allah, that ye may receive mercy. 46 They said, “We consider you an evil omen, and your companions”; he said, “Your evil omen is with Allah – in fact you people have fallen into trial.” 47 And there were in the city nine family heads causing corruption in the land and not amending [its affairs]. 48 They said: 'Let us swear by Allah to attack him and his family at night, then we will tell his guardian we were not witnesses of the destruction of his family; and surely we are truthful' 49 Thus they planned and We too planned, the while they did not know. 50 We destroyed them and their people altogether. 51 So those are their houses fallen down because they were unjust, most surely there is a sign in this for a people who know. 52 And we saved those who believed and used to ward off (evil). 53 AND [thus, too, did We save] Lot, when he said unto his people: "Would you commit this abomination with your eyes open (to its being against all nature)? 54 Do you lustfully approach men instead of women? Nay, you engage in acts of sheer ignorance." 55 ۞ Therefore the answer of his people was nothing except that they said, “Expel the family of Lut from your township; these people wish purity!” 56 Then We delivered him and his household save his wife: We destined her to be of the lingerers. 57 And We showered a rain upon them; so what a wretched rain for those who were warned! 58
