Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In the high empyrean, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
