When We told the angels to prostrate before Adam they all obeyed except Iblis (satan) who refused. 116 So We said; "O Adam, he is truly your enemy and your wife's. Do not let him have you turned out of Paradise and come to grief. 117 It has been given to you so that you shall neither become hungry nor naked therein; 118 And that thou thirstest not therein nor art exposed to the sun's heat. 119 But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? 120 And so the two ate [of the fruit] thereof: and thereupon they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And [thus] did Adam disobey his Sustainer, and thus did he fall into grievous error. 121 Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him]. 122 God then told them, "Get out of here all of you; you are each other's enemies. When My guidance comes to you, those who follow it will not go astray nor will they endure any misery. 123 Whoever ignores My guidance will live a woeful life and will be brought in Our presence blind on the Day of Judgment. 124 He will ask: "O Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see?" 125 He (Allah) will say: 'It is so, Our verses came to you and you forgot them. So this Day you are forgotten' 126 For, thus shall We recompense him who wastes his own self and does not believe in his Sustainer's messages: and indeed, the suffering [of such sinners] in the life to come shall be most severe and most enduring! 127 So did they not gain guidance from (knowing) how many generations We have destroyed before them, among whose dwellings they walk? Indeed in it are signs for men of intellect. 128
