The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
