The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 for a great Day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution), 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
