The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And there never came an apostle to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
