To Moses we also revealed: 'Set forth with My worshipers by night and strike for them a dry path in the sea. Do not fear that you will be overtaken, neither be afraid' 77 Pharaoh followed them with his hosts, but they were overwhelmed by the sea; 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 O children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and sent down for you manna and quails, 80 “Eat the good clean things We have provided you, and do not exceed the limits in respect of it causing My wrath to descend upon you; and indeed the one on whom My wrath descended, has fallen.” 81 But I am indeed Most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does righteous works and keeps to the Right Way." 82 ۞ The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?" 83 He said: They are here on my track and I hastened on to Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be pleased. 84 Said He, 'We have tempted thy people since thou didst leave them. The Samaritan has misled them into error.' 85 Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e. disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?" 86 They said: we failed not to keep thy appointment of our own authority, but we were laden with burthens of the people's ornaments; then we threw them, and thus the Samiri cast down. 87 So he brought forth for them a calf, a (mere) body, which had a mooing sound, so they said: This is your god and the god of Musa, but he forgot. 88 Why did they not see that it could not give them any response and had no power to harm or benefit them? 89
