The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
