The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
