The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
