The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
