The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
