The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
