The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a fitting requital, 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
