He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
