The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
