The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
